On February 20, 2025, a non-DOJ individual was sentenced to two years of federal supervised release and ordered to pay an assessment of $100 and a fine of $1,500.00 for one count of providing contraband to an inmate. Yajaira Christina Contreras was sentenced in the District of Rhode Island. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about January 30, 2021, through on or about February 15, 2021, Contreras conspired with co-defendants to provide 201 suboxone strips containing buprenorphine to an inmate housed at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility (Wyatt Detention Center), a USMS contract facility that houses pre-sentenced inmates. Contreras admitted that she provided the contraband and that she transferred $3,000 from her bank account to another person’s account to facilitate getting the suboxone strips inside the Wyatt Detention Center. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Boston Office, the FBI, the USMS, and the Professional Standards Unit at the Wyatt Detention Center.
