On June 27, 2024, a non-DOJ individual was sentenced to 36 months of probation, including 12 months of monitored home confinement, for conspiracy to commit bribery. Kayla Cronin was sentenced in the Eastern District of Virginia. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about October 4, 2022 through on or about December 16, 2022, Cronin mailed bribe payments, exceeding $6,500 but falling below $15,000, via the U.S. Postal Service to a correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Complex Petersburg (FCC Petersburg), in Virginia, at the direction of a BOP inmate, in exchange for the correctional officer providing prohibited objects to the BOP inmate for further distribution to inmates at FCC Petersburg. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Washington Office; forensic assistance was provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
