On August 16, 2024, an inmate incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Complex Coleman (FCC Coleman), located in Sumterville, Florida, was arrested following an indictment charging him with one count of possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and one count of possessing prohibited objects in a prison. Previously, on June 3, 2024, a non-DOJ individual was arrested following an indictment charging him with one count of making a false statement and one count of providing a prohibited object in prison. Inmate Jessie Wooden and non-DOJ individual Janai Stephens were charged in the Middle District of Florida. According to the Indictment, on or about March 10, 2024, Wooden knowingly possessed prohibited objects, namely, methamphetamine, marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol, and buprenorphine, and possessed with intent to distribute methamphetamines. Also included in the Indictment, on or about March 10, 2024, Stephens knowingly and willfully made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement to a BOP Corrections Officer that she did not have any tobacco products in her possession upon entering FCC Coleman, knowing such statement and representation to be false, fictitious, and fraudulent. Stephens also allegedly knowingly provided and attempted to provide a prohibited object, namely, tobacco cigarettes to an inmate. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the OIG’s Miami Office and the DEA’s Gainesville, Florida office.
