Former BOP Correctional Officer Sentenced for Wire Fraud

On January 30, 2025, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Miami, Florida, was sentenced to 3 years’ probation followed by 120 days of home detention for one count of wire fraud. Eshwar Mohabeer was sentenced in the Southern District of Florida. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, in 2020, Mohabeer fraudulently applied for and secured Economic Injury Disaster Loan funds in the amount of $46,500. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Fraud Detection Office with assistance from the OIG’s Southeast Region.
