On May 27, 2025, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Complex Coleman (FCC Coleman) in Sumterville, Florida, was sentenced twelve months and one day of incarceration. Miguel Hidalgo was sentenced after pleading guilty to an indictment in the Middle District of Florida. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about August 31, 2022, Hidalgo assaulted an inmate by striking him multiple times in the head and chest, causing multiple rib fractures and contusions on his face, and thus willfully deprived him of the right, secured and protected by the Constitution and laws of the United States, to not be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment by one acting under color of law. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Huntsville Locale.
