Former BOP Correctional Officer Pleaded Guilty to Bribery

On December 13, 2023, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution located in Estill, South Carolina (FCI Estill), pleaded guilty to one count of bribery.  Ashlee Richardson Barley pleaded guilty in the District of South Carolina.  According to plea paperwork, Richardson Barley pleaded guilty to count 1 of the Indictment, which stated that from in or about November 2019 through in or about April 2020, Richardson Barley accepted monetary payments in exchange for smuggling contraband items into FCI-Estill.  The indictment included a forfeiture provision that requires Richardson Barley to forfeit $15,700, which is the sum equal to the amount of bribery payments Richardson Barley received.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Southeast Region.
