On August 26, 2024, a former Arkansas State Representative was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to forfeit $450,501 for one count of conspiring with executives of a nonprofit entity receiving DOJ and other federal funding. Former Arkansas Representative Eddie Cooper was sentenced in the Western District of Missouri. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about October 2009 through in or about February 2017, Cooper conspired with executives of Preferred Family Healthcare, Inc., a Springfield-based healthcare nonprofit that received DOJ and other federal funding, to use the nonprofit’s money for unlawful political contributions and lobbying, as well as to enrich themselves. This investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Kansas City Locale, FBI, IRS, and DOL-OIG.
