On June 18, 2024, an inmate incarcerated at United States Penitentiary, Atlanta (USP Atlanta), in Georgia, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a prohibited object - methamphetamine. Mitchell Arms pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Georgia. According to the plea agreement, Arms pleaded guilty to Count 7 of the Indictment, which stated that between in or about August 2018 and in or about February 2019, Arms, aided and abetted by others, knowingly possessed methamphetamine at USP Atlanta. The indictment further states that Arms and other inmates at USP Atlanta were able to obtain contraband with the knowledge and assistance of BOP Maintenance Supervisor Patrick Shackelford, who assisted inmates with creating a hole in a wall with access to a visitors’ bathroom. Shackelford was arrested on December 16, 2021, following an indictment charging him with conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to provide prohibited objects, and other related charges. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Atlanta Office and the FBI’s Atlanta Division.
