BOP Correctional Specialist Pleaded Guilty to Conspiracy to Defraud the U.S. Government

On November 6, 2024, a BOP Computation Specialist assigned to the BOP South Central Regional Office in Grand Prairie, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Government. Jackie Peters pleaded guilty in the District of Arizona. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about January 15, 2020 through on or about May 21, 2021, Peters and other associates knowingly devised and intended to devise a scheme to file fraudulent tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Peters and her associates assumed the identities of Arizona residents and filed fraudulent IRS form 1040s, including falsified earned income and itemized expenses and deductions to obtain a higher tax refund for the assumed identities. Peters then opened bank accounts in her name and under her control and deposited the false tax returns into these bank accounts. The fraud loss amount is approximately $2,500,000. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Dallas Office, IRS-CI, and TIGTA.
