BOP Correctional Officer Pleaded Guilty to Wire Fraud

On March 4, 2025, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Miami (FCI Miami), in Florida, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud. Angelo Stephen pleaded guilty in the Southern District of Florida. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about August 2020 through in or about May 2021, Stephen received fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster loans from the Small Business Administration. The total loss was approximately $60,000. From in or about March 2023 through in or about July 2023, Stephen also engaged in an account takeover fraud and check fraud. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Fraud Detection Office with assistance from the Southeast Region Office, and the Small Business Administration Office of the Inspector General.
