On August 23, 2024, a BOP Senior Officer Specialist assigned to the Federal Correctional Complex in Victorville, California, was arrested following an indictment charging him with two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law. Erik Salgado was charged in the Central District of California. According to the Indictment, on or about August 5, 2021, Salgado, while acting under color of law, assaulted two inmates with chemical spray, resulting in bodily injury, and depriving the inmates of their rights to be free from the use of unreasonable and unnecessary force by a correctional officer amounting to cruel and unusual punishment. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Los Angeles Office.
