BOP Correctional Officer Arrested and Charged with Wire Fraud

On January 28, 2025, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Miami (FCI Miami) in Florida, was arrested following an information charging him with one count of wire fraud. Angelo Stephen was charged in the Southern District of Florida. According to the Information, from in or about August 2020 through in or about July 2023, Stephen received fraudulent Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster loans totaling approximately $60,000 from the Small Business Administration under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Stephen also engaged in an account takeover fraud and check fraud. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Fraud Detection Office with assistance from the Southeast Region Office, and the Small Business Administration Office of the Inspector General.
