DOJ OIG Releases Report on DOJ’s Contract Actions Reported by Contracting Officers to USASpending.gov

Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of a report auditing certain DOJ contract actions submitted to USASpending.gov. USAspending.gov is the official open data source for unclassified spending information of the U.S. government. Its purpose is to show the American public how much the federal government spends on federal awards every year and how the money is spent.

The DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) tested a statistical sample of DOJ’s contract action transactions reported in USAspending.gov during fiscal year 2023. The OIG’s statistical analysis showed that over 96 percent of the data entries were accurate, and that approximately 80 percent of the data entries were timely.

The DOJ OIG made one recommendation to improve the accuracy and timeliness of the contract actions reported by Contracting Officers. DOJ’s Justice Management Division agreed with our recommendation.
