We help the Department of Justice (DOJ) improve its operations and hold officials accountable for complying with established policy. Given DOJ’s domestic and international activities, potential assignments include reviewing classified FBI counterterrorism programs, assessing the Drug Enforcement Administration overseas operations, auditing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives financial practices, examining prison conditions, evaluating critical information technology systems, and auditing multi-million-dollar contracts and grants.
We are seeking highly motivated, detail-oriented applicants looking for a rewarding career improving DOJ’s critical operations. Applicants must have prior experience or meet time-in-grade requirements directly related to program evaluation and demonstrated competency in government auditing, writing, and information/data analysis.
The ideal candidate should possess education and work experience in planning and evaluation techniques, data/quantitative analysis, research methodology, policy analysis, and report writing. As a workforce, we value accountability, innovation, collaboration, engagement and inclusivity, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
At mid to senior-level staff positions, candidates can expect to work cohesively in teams to assess risk and conduct government performance audits and reviews that identify program, system, or internal control weaknesses; prepare reports, correspondence, and other materials that present technical information, data, analysis, and results to colleagues, the public and DOJ executives; share information, collaborate, and mentor junior staff in successful approaches to obtaining audit results and resolving complications; and formulate conclusions on agency operations and the efficiency and effectiveness of DOJ programs.
To apply for a position with the DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG), you must be a U.S. citizen. You may have access to classified or sensitive information and must undergo a background investigation.
The Audit Division is responsible for examining a wide range of activities throughout the DOJ, including within the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Attorney's Offices, and federal prisons. In support of the DOJ OIG's mission to detect and deter fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct, the Audit Division conducts sophisticated program reviews, examinations of grants and contracts, financial audits, and assessments of information technology systems.
The Performance Auditor’s work is complex, results oriented, and involves critically evaluating programs and practices related to national security, law enforcement, victim assistance, and other DOJ priorities. Projects culminate in the development of persuasive public products that clearly state findings and make recommendations for corrective actions that meaningfully improve government operations, value, and accountability.
