Data Scientist

Operations Research Analyst/Mathematical Statistician/Statistician

As an innovation- and service-focused office, the Office of Data Analytics collaborates with all Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Divisions to enhance their work products and reimagine the future of oversight. Our Data Scientists manage a varied project portfolio for datasets across DOJ components and program areas and are involved in the full data lifecycle. They use advanced analytical and mathematical methods to solve research objectives and advance the DOJ OIG mission.

Current Openings

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a degree in mathematics, statistics, or other degree with a focus in quantitative methods. Experience wrangling and deriving insights from data, conducting statistical analyses of complex data sets, as well as using tools such as Python/R, Informatica, Power BI, and ArcGIS Pro strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate should excel in critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving, and written communication skills. Also, individuals should possess values such as accountability, integrity, interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, attention to detail, and self-management.

Data Scientists have many data-related responsibilities including data engineering, data analysis, data visualization, and communicating data results to internal and external stakeholders. Through collaborating with teammates and divisional subject matter experts, Data Scientists apply statistical and mathematical methods, such as regression analysis, sampling design and estimation, machine learning, geospatial analysis, time series analysis, and inferential statistics to solve research objectives. The Office of Data Analytics supports tools such as Informatica, Python, ArcGIS Pro, and Power BI to complete its work.

The Office of Data Analytics is a diverse team of data and information technology professionals supporting the DOJ OIG's mission to promote rule of law through objective, independent oversight of DOJ by facilitating the integration of advanced data and quantitative methods into the DOJ OIG’s work. As an innovation- and service-focused office, the Office of Data Analytics collaborates with all DOJ OIG Divisions to elevate their work products and reimagine the future of oversight.

Data Scientists manage a portfolio of long-term and short-term projects for a variety of datasets across DOJ components and program areas and are involved in all stages of the data lifecycle. By developing data expertise, working closely with subject matter experts, and curating analytical methods, the Office of Data Analytics turns data into insight for the DOJ OIG.
